The Canary archipelago is a group of seven islands covering an area of about 7,500 square miles. Blessed with a moderate climate, the islands have become the ideal destination for travellers looking for the perfect combination of sun, sea and sand.

With the busy marinas and the yacht-filled harbours, sailing is second nature to the people of the islands. Tourists who want to come to the islands can avail chartered flights that detour the mainland and fly straight to the destination from most European capitals.

Over 500 years ago, Columbus sailed to the New World from the Canary Islands, and today the archipelago remains the logical jumping-off point for yachts crossing the Atlantic to the Caribbean. With bustling marinas and harbours full of yachts, sailing has become intertwined with daily life in the Canarias, what with its main islands only a day's sail apart.

With a climate so mild that one can bathe in the sea even during winter. This perpetual springtime has made it a favourite destination among travellers who are looking for the perfect sun, sea, and sand holiday. It is closer to the coast of northwest Africa than to peninsular Spain, so most mainlanders jokingly refer to the islanders as Africans.

Buying a property abroad on the Canary Islands is actually quite an easy process these days, with numerous Canaries Real Estate Agents located in the main resort and property booming areas ready and waiting to help. Whilst you're browsing the Canaries looking for the ideal property for you, you'll need temporary accommodation to really get the feel of the area you're intending to move to.

Tenerife property is always a booming concern, with some superb property deals around Playa de Las Americas in South Tenerife. Look to leisure golf complexes such as Golf del Sur or to some of the newer property suburbs such as Torviscas. Move up the west coast towards Los Gigantes and Puerto Santiago/Playa de la Arena for more great deals.

On Lanzarote all three of the main resorts offer a good choice of properties, particularly Playa Blanca to the south.

Fuerteventura is seeing some considerable development, particularly around Caleta de Fuste with new golf leisure complexes springing up, and also in the Jandia area.

Property investment on the Canaries can be extremely lucrative, and accommodation choices range from 1 bedroom apartments and studios with shared pools, to rural fincas and palatial villas with pools. With all year round sunshine, having a second home on the Canaries or moving over there is becoming increasingly popular with British residents.
